Southern Lands Navigation Challenge
Churchill Park
09:00 – 15:00
Let’s start the New Year with a test of our communication and navigation skills, as well as patience with each other, on a cryptic navigation exercise somewhere south of the Swan River! We must meet on Sunday, January 18th, no later than 9:00 am on Rockingham Beach Road at the local café strip, across from LuLu’s Café. Grab yourself a coffee, and we’ll gather in the Churchill Park foreshore at 9:15 am for a briefing and to collect our tulip diagrams, clue sheets, and other material. We have a staggered start every 90 seconds, commencing at 9:30 am sharp, travelling in a south-westerly direction towards Harrison Street. Then the gloves are off for a dignified “Amazing Race,” where each navigator-driver team pits their wits and skills against the others to follow the right route at the right speed, collecting clues and points along the way. You can drive and navigate at the same time if you wish to travel solo, and the material will suggest safe stops for you to consult the tulip diagram and clues. We’ll debrief at a historic café for refreshments, and we'll stop for lunch at around 1:00 pm at a highly acclaimed tavern. Please register your interest as soon as possible so that enough race packs can be compiled.

Kate, the owner, can’t wait to share her passion with the SAAB Club; but the more mechanically inclined are invited to join Kate’s partner Michael in his fabrication workshop at the rear of the Gallery. We must leave Beverley no later than 12:45 pm for the drive to Pingelly for lunch at The Exchange Tavern. The Exchange is your typical Wheatbelt pub without airs and graces, but the beers are cold, the food is generous, and the hosts and fire are warm. Return home at your leisure via the Brookton Highway.
